How to help your child to be self-sufficient?

Today, there are many ways for children to turn into responsible adults. Every parent has their own way of ensuring the child reaches their potential and they can be vastly different. However, when it comes to making sure your child is considered to be self-sufficient, there are some common things that a parent can do to ensure their teens are growing up early into people you can trust and depend on. Having said this, here are 3 tips that can help you in your efforts.

Tip #1 – Give them a chance to Fail without Freaking Out

It’s failure that gives you the proper perspective on success.” – Ellen DeGeneres

No one wants to see their child fail. This can be one of the most excruciating experiences ever, especially when you need to hold back and watch it happen. Even though this is uncomfortable, the gains that you and the teen will get during this time can be one of the biggest jumps in growing into maturity. This is because failures will give them their experience that they need to learn how it feels when it is on their shoulder.  You can also watch them be creative in learning how to recover.

Tip #2 – Encourage Problem Solving

For every problem there is an answer. Empty your thoughts and allow the solutions to visit you.” Anonymous

As referenced above, the failures that they experience will give them a chance to see what it feels like to fall and then get up with grace. The grace that they experience is learning how to turn lemons into lemonade. Simply put, this kind of problem-solving can be very beneficial as they encounter other problems that they will face in their jobs and school too.

Tip #3 – Allow them to Miss Bus

“Missing a bus is like missing an opportunity. You need to learn to be self-disciplined and not miss it next time.” Ketan Hathi

The independence may not come if you continue to wake your teen up in the morning. In fact, give them an opportunity to miss the alarm clock and the bus. Once they figure out how much trouble it can cause them, they will take the lead and responsibility in getting to school on and before time too.

It always needs efforts on the part of parents, guardians and teachers to transform a child into independent and responsible youth.

Over 90 percent of Canada’s Universities and College graduates are employed in their field of study within six months after graduation and 93 percent of employers are satisfied with the graduates.

Why Study in Canada?

There are graduate programs in Canada, Masters programs in Canada, Undergraduate programs in Canada, College programs in Canada, Business Schools in Canada, Law Schools in Canada, Medical Schools in Canada, Foundation Schools in Canada, Post-Secondary Schools in Canada, Colleges in Canada etc.

Admission Requirements

The most important thing to obtain is a student visa (permit), as this is often called, for the period of your visit to the country as a Canadian student. However, if your course or program lasts less than or equal to 6 months, you do not need a Canadian study permit.

Undergraduate requirements
Undergraduate requirements rely on the category of organization you choose, this is normally in the form of prerequisites and assessments that steer the processes associated in a certain university or college to deliver a degree that differs in different respects based on whether the student is a foreigner or a permanent resident.

For admission into undergraduate level, student must have completed twelve years of academic education, but for postgraduate level it is sixteen years. Below you can find undergraduate requirements for most Canadian Tertiary Institutions.

All applicants into undergraduate programs must submit:

A completed application form;

An official high school transcript (or attested copy) (if applicable);

Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (if any);

A detailed chronological résumé to demonstrate educational achievements, work experience, progression, community involvement, volunteer experience, and other related experience; and

A Letter of Intent (LOI) that clearly explains why the applicant is applying and outlines the student’s academic intentions.

Applicants who completed high school or any post-secondary study outside Canada must also submit:

Documentation confirming their high school completion was awarded, if not already indicated on official transcripts; and

Proof of English language proficiency.

Finally, it is important for you to know that major languages used in Canada are English and French. But most of the universities offer courses in English language. So, you need to show your efficiency by means of English Language tests. IELTS is most widely recognized and accepted English proficiency test in Canada, however, some universities and colleges accept TOEFL. The score that you must obtain in these language tests vary from institution to institution and course of study. Some universities even seek for other medium of English language test assessment. For MBA, students may be asked for two years of work experience before being admitted to the university. In most of the cases GMAT is compulsory for MBA students.

Smiling through depression?

Mental illnesses don’t care how successful you are and being funny isn’t the same as being happy, for Robin William’s comedy was the wall he built to hide his darkness. The mask he wore to make everybody else’s day. When we see a car with a sticker that says baby on board or disabled passenger, naturally we’re more patient with the driver, we slow down and give them space to drive because we know that there’s a vulnerable person inside. Would we be so considerate if the sign wasn’t there? I can almost definitely say no.

The truth is, We don’t know what someone is going through because people don’t wear signs to illustrate their struggles. You don’t see signs attached to people saying, “Going through a divorce“, or “Lost a child”, or “Feeling depressed“, or “Diagnosed with cancer“. If we could visually see what those around us are going through we would definitely be kinder, so Why do we need the sign? Pain is relative, everyone is going through their own pain, and it’s a pain we know nothing about, a pain often masked by a smile to protect that vulnerable person inside. Whether we know what is going on or not We have to treat everyone as if they’re wearing a sign we can’t see. Mental health issues are invisible illnesses that don’t always look the same on the outside, you can have everything in the world but still be unhappy. It’s not because you’re hard to please or you’re just never satisfied.

It’s because pain, sadness and depression do not discriminate. Share your thoughts / advice below.

I will be happy to help to my best of knowledge as I am not counselling psychologist but yes I can guide you from my student counselling experience.

How Education Advisor Can Ease Your Pain?

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”

Maya Angelou

An education advisor or academic consultant is a consultant who gives advice to high school and college students on how to plan their studies.
An education advisor also provides guidance on academic matters to students, parents, teachers, school boards and other educational bodies.

You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can demonstrate or guide him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.
Education advisors are in a unique position to help students with school- and home-life-related issues.This guidance can be in the form of one – on – one sessions, online telephone calls, high school classes on application for a college.

Here are the top five reasons to have an education advisor to foster your academic path.

  1. To confirm your university qualifications
  2. To ensure that you have the right course
  3. To explore major career options
  4. To plan future steps in your education
  5. To make connection between challenging academic work and your future success

Academic consulting’s mission is to support students in their growth and development through the development of meaningful educational plans compatible with their life goals. Most of the students get influenced by parents,relatives,peers,trend and society. They don’t select what is right for them but nod their head in what others decisions.I don’t say that they are wrong but what suits some might not be convenient to your mindset.

As an educator, I can tell you that a professional advisor can show you definitely the right path. You will never be satisfied in life if you don’t seize the right walking path. Do you want to live the rest of your years yearning to know what would have happened if you would taken help of an expert when you had the chance? Major universities and colleges all over the world have their own education advisors and counselors, which proves that self treated illness though might save you some money but has risk factors associated with it.

I am an education advisor registered under Dubai Knowledge Park. I have taught, mentored and advised more than 4000 students in my long two decade academic career.I would be happy to assist and advice you to boost up your academic journey.
